The use of Blogs

Basically defined a blog is a type of website that is most of the times maintained by an individual with constant postings of news, events, photos etc. Over the years the use of blogs has exploded, and it has become more and more popular.
Many organizations now turn to blogs. They might use them internally to promote communication and culture within the company itself ( it has proven to be more efficient in the sens that posts are short, and there is no need to upload huge documents), or they might be used externally, for marketing, branding and public relations purposes.

Advantages of Blogs within organizations:
  • Employees and consumers are better informed of any of the organization's objectives and activities. This can of course help the organization in the long-run, it will maintain a good relationship with consumers.
  • Blogs can be an excellent way of sharing information within the organization, it is a cheap and efficient manner of keeping good communication.
  • Blogs can help companies get constant feedback, aiding them in the amelioration of their company, and once again helping them maintain good ties with customers.
  • Blogs can profile the talent of the writer, showing that the orginization has a wide array of people working with them
Disadvantages of Blogs within organizations:
  • Blogs might seem like a waste of time and energy when the writers lack of interesting things to say, and are unable to keep a constant flow of ideas, with regular updates.
  • Although blogs might seem like a cheap strategy to maintain a good relationship with customers, they might become costly in the sens that they become extremely time consuming.

Disadvantages of the use of fingerprint readers in organizations

While using a fingerprint reader within a an organization has many advantages, it is also important to consider all of the disadvantages that follow.

First of it is important to notice that this product is not fit for all types of organizations and workplaces. If these scanners are used on doors or computers to restrict access it might come as an inconvenience in work environments where personnel needs to be wearing gloves at all times.
Also, since the key to unlocking the device is the direct use of a fingertip, the hand may have come in contact previously with a substance ( hand cream or water) that might make it difficult to recognize the print. Errors like this, that might occur often, can be quite frustrating and eventually time consuming.

Another disadvantage is the fact that this technology is extremely sensitive and cheaper components might often be used in its construction. This might lead to denied access to authorized personal due to poor manufacturing.

Advantages of using Fingerprint scanners in organizations

Biometric devices have revolutionized the 21st century, at least when it comes to information technology. They have become widely popular and made much more available.
Fingerprint scanners are one of the many biometric devices that presents a large number of advantages, specially ones from which many organizations have highly benefited.

One of the first noticeable advantages is the enhanced security. As mentioned previously, this new device has modified the traditional password. Instead of having many usernames with different passwords, the fingerprint reader can store various prints, omitting the need to memorize passwords. Actually organizations will now be able to use more complicated passwords, enhancing security in the sens that it will be much more difficult to crack it, since the recognization of a fingerprint will automatically input the password and allow access.

Another advantage is regarding management. Fingerprint recognition devices allow managers to replace the traditional time-sheets. Instead of being done manually, which can be costly and time consuming, record keeping can now be done electronically.

Major organizations have a greater need than the average person for a reliable and accurate system of protection. Of all the biometric devices, the fingerprint reader is still the most reliable one, since there is practically no possibility of imitation. Organizations can feel confident of investing in these types of devices.

Fingerprint Readers Replacing other Information Technologies

Fingertip readers have been issued on the market to help compensate for the weaknesses of the other information technologies already available.
Like mentioned previously, fingertip scanners are part of biometric devices, known for using human features (such as optics) as recognition variables.

Fingertip readers have helped enhance security in a variety of ways. First of all it comes as a replacement, or enforcer, to the traditional password. Key cards, that can be easily copied since they use a bar-code recognition system can be also replaced by a fingerprint scanner.
Another simple use of the fingerprint scanner is for safes or jewelery boxes. Instead of using a lock, key or password, manufactures are now considering more and more the use of this new IT.

Fingerprint scanners can also be used to replace keys. Instead of having different set of keys, house, office etc, the scanner may come as a good alternative. One of the many advantages is that security will be greatly enhanced since there can be no replication of the key!

Biometric Devices: Fingerprint Reader

Biometric devices have the basic function of recognizing an individual based on physical characteristics. Over the years tones of biometric devices have emerged. We will be looking more in depth at the Fingerprint Reader.
The Fingerprint Reader is a scanner that is used to identify a person's fingertip, mainly for security reasons. Fingerprintss have been recognized as a persons own id card, in the sens that each fingerprint can be associated to one person only.
Basically the scanner generates an image of the ridges and valleys that make up the fingertip, and than through a series of processes and analysis is able to match the fingertip to one previously entered in the system.
This fingerprint acts as an addition, or even a replacement, to traditional passwords. It is harder to replicate since the reader requires an actual fingertip and not just picture or scan of one.
